Early Years and Inspiration
Born in 1975 in Mexico, Jorge Nájera embarked on his artistic path in the landscapes between Houston, TX, and Monterrey, NL, with a pencil as his first tool for exploration. As soon as he was able to hold a pencil, he would sit looking out the back window with his sketch book and draw desertscapes. These early impressions, etched during long drives in a station wagon, nurtured a deep connection to the natural world and the diverse urban textures of his travels.

Artistic Turning Point and Education
Nájera's journey took a decisive turn when, originally planning to study graphic design at UANL’s Faculty of Visual Arts, he encountered the work of Julian Schnabel in the form of a Retrospective. This momentous experience shifted his focus toward fine arts, with a newly found aspiration to “do the same” he says and emotionally move others through his art. Heeding this call, Nájera debuted his work at Juan Lazcano Gallery during his third semester at the university where he now majored in fine arts, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors. After completing five semesters he transferred and studied “unofficially” for one semester Fine Art and drawing at the at the University of Veracruz.  

Artistic Evolution
Nájera's work traverses the realms of the bi-dimensional and the three-dimensional, capturing the essence of natural phenomena and urban decay with equal finesse. His acrylic and oil paintings span a dynamic range serving as windows into both the tranquil and tumultuous natural phenomena, from serene, cloud-like vistas to the fervent energy of cosmic trails. This duality is a reflection of his inspiration drawn from the contrasts of Monterrey's mountains, Mexico City's textured urban canvas, and the serene yet powerful presence of Galveston Bay
Since 2003, his innovative use of convex, concave and spherical wooden panels introduces a tactile dimension to his art. Nájera's creations are not just seen; they are felt, crafting a bridge between the viewer’s heart and the experience woven into each piece.

Professional Milestones
His first major exhibition opportunity came during his studies, quickly followed by his participation in galleries and museums. Nájera does not only excel as a painter but also showcases his creativity and talent as a musician. His band’s debut album ‘Volovan’ was released in 2002 through Lakeshore Records and was edited for 6 countries outside the US including Japan. In 2003, Nájera began working with three-dimensional wooden panels, marking a significant evolution in his artistic practice. Notable projects include the "Inmersión" installation at Museo Metropolitano de Monterrey in 2015 and the "Mothersong" series initiated in 2016. In 2022 his solo exhibition, "Perpetual Passion" took place at ArtUs Co Gallery in Austin, Texas.

Statement by the Artist
"I work in several ‘lanes’ and aim to explore multiple dimensions in my work: The bi-dimensional with my acryl and oil canvas works. The three-dimensional with my wooden panels, at times fragmented into modules with a variation of finishes ranging from smooth to jagged. I want the viewer to have an experience and feel emotionally moved and touched." 

Current Life
Nájera resides and works in San Antonio, Texas, where he continues to push the boundaries of his medium and message. His journey remains an ever-evolving narrative, inviting us to see the world through his eyes and our personal lens.
