"Viewers of my works can immerse themselves and let their own imagination flow. When you let yourself drift, you become an artist in dialogue with the images"

witty | Erica Wittenwiler

Witty was born in 1966 in Herisau, Switzerland. Today she lives and works in the canton of Zug. She has always been interested in colors and shapes. Painting is pure passion for her. Creating different layers of paint on top of each other or next to each other is like writing a poem. She loves to work creatively with tools and carriers and is always working on several projects at the same time.

A process that gives her strength, energy, but also peace and serenity. Impressions from her travels, her own zoomed-in photos of floors and old walls inspire her. In this way, she allows her deep and richly textured images to emerge spontaneously from the subconscious. The many different layers created by combining paints, stone powder, rust, pigments and natural materials give the artworks a fascinating depth and expressiveness. The unusual utensils she uses for this purpose create interesting structures and accentuated surfaces. In doing so, she gives free rein to both the forms and colors.

Her artworks come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, on wood and canvas. She even makes her own formats and frames if something different is needed to enhance and strengthen her unique vision. Witty is a master at abstraction, composing acrylic and mixed media pieces and translating true emotion on to canvas.
She is energetic and has a strong desire to experiment, which leads her to always trying new materials and combinations.
Currently, Witty also uses gold leaf, rabbit glue and resin in her paintings.

Part of her creative process is writing, a secret message to the viewer, sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden but present in each single piece. She will never reveal what it means, the viewer is meant to be in dialogue and find meaning for himself, immerse.
What many don't know is, Witty loves to paint at night and follows her strong sense of inspiration no matter the time. Not long ago, she designed and created a unique eyewear collection. A woman of many talents, ideas and full of energy.

Witty has had her own painting school and gallery for over 15 years and has participated in many projects. Here years of experience and growing popularity are visible in each event she participates. Witty broadly exhibits her works in cultural and personal exhibitions at home in Switzerland and abroad, which included a show in New York.
